Release kernel sources for Android SOCs and comply with the GPL

This petition had 9 supporters

We all know that Android, and most especially its derivatives CyanogenMod and the free-software fork Replicant were written and developed with freedom and customization in mind. Most semiconductor firms who announced support for the platform are generous enough to share their resources and documentation.

But that isn't solely for the benefit of hobbyists and open-source advocates - the Linux foundation to which Android is built upon is released under the GPL, and your practice of locking down and ignoring open-source development by selling kernel source codes to manufacturers is a disappointment to the community, besides being potentially illegal to begin with.

We pray and hope that you consider changing your stance regarding open-source - we have nothing against your company, really, it's just that we felt that since your products have opened doors to inexpensive mobile platforms especially in developing countries, opening your doors to hobbyist development would be a win-win solution both to you and to us Android users.
