PHYLLIS STEWART-RUFFIN started this petition to Media Outlets and

Stop the blatant, false characterization of all Blacks as non-contributors to the capitalistic structure. The choice of words used by many media outlets, "Blacks and other low-income communities," "Blacks and other low-income groups," and similar phraseology insults an entire race by classifying all Blacks as marginal to the economy.

All Blacks are not low-income. All Blacks do not reside in a low-income community. The correct phrase is race-generic: low-income communities or low-income groups.

Many mainstream media outlets strip Blacks of their dignity by continuing to depict our entire race as financially struggling. It's critical that  low-income Black youth aspire to the realistic expectation of reaching the middle class despite institutional racism and the negative stereotypes of their race they regularly see and hear.

Apologies from media outlets are unnecessary; a paradigm change is sought. This petition will be successful when media outlets publish their recognition that generalizing all Blacks to be low-income is per se racist, and commit to end the practice.
