Massage therapy has spent years trying to fight for our profession to be recognized as medical professionals. When politicians and the media refer to us as "massage parlors" they lump us in with workers in the sex trade. We are licensed massage therapists and our licenses are issued through the department of health therefore we should be recognized as medical professionals and treated as such. Throughout the outbreak of this global pandemic the media and government officials continuously referred to massage establishments as "massage parlors" this terminology is offensive and we need to have a certain degree of separation from the sex trade. We have been educated about the human body through our studies in Anatomy and Physiology and deserve to be recognized as educated medical professionals.
