We want women to realize the value of self-confidence and true beauty, instead of idolizing the negative and over exposed females that currently seem to consume media attention. Through our petition we are asking media companies to recognize this request and make room for these role models to exist.
Integrate more positive female role models to all aspects of the media.
We often hear celebrities say "I'm Not A Role Model," but the truth is YOU ARE A ROLE MODEL when you're in the public eye.
Where are all the female role models? Sadly they are few and far between, and something needs to change! We are on a CRUSADE to expose women of all ages to a new kind of female role model, and ensure that the current and future generations realize the value of intelligence, self-confidence and true beauty, instead of idolizing the negative and over exposed females that currently seem to consume media attention.
As part of our crusade we are rallying people to sign a petition that demonstrates their desire for more positive female role models in the media and are challenging media companies to highlight these individuals in film, radio, print and television.
Many studies show the strong correlation between increased self-esteem and individuals exposed to positive female role models in the media. A recent study done by a college in the south, took it a step further, dramatically proving the need for positive females. The study had participants take a survey after viewing two different television shows. Both shows had some degrading content towards women, but one also had positive female characters while the other did not have any. The results showed that, "positive female characters were in some ways able to negate the effects of degrading content." The study proved that women, as well as men, responded positively to strong female role models and suggested that positive female role models can actually combat negative images as well as help with self-esteem.
We have the ability to dramatically alter the perception of women through the media. There is power in numbers and now is the time to stand together and ask media executives to listen to our request!
