To increase access to licensed midwifery care, particularly for families receiving Medi-Cal

I am a constituent urging you to ensure that bills SB304 & AB1308 are written in a way that protects and expands options for CA women to use the services of licensed midwives, especially women receiving Medi-Cal. I either was prohibited from having an out-of-hospital birth with a licensed midwife because she was unable to accept payment from Medi-Cal, or I had an out-of-hospital birth that I paid for with personal funds even though I was receiving Medi-Cal. I feel that the requirement for licensed midwives to have physician supervision provides a barrier to care, particularly to individuals receiving Medi-Cal. I support legislation that would remove this wording thereby giving licensed midwives the ability to provide their services to families of all economic standing.
