Preventing Sinkholes

We need to prevent the formation of sinkholes. Sinkholes can cause detrimental destruction to the environment and the economy. They can cause the ground to loosen and become unstable, putting large buildings and structures in danger of collapsing. Sinkholes are also very expensive to fill and repair. That expense doesn't include the amount of money required to rebuild or fix collapsed and damaged buildings.

Nearly $300 million dollars a year are required to fill sinkholes and can take a good amount of time. Sinkholes often form due to water leaks in rusted, old and corroded sewage pipes because the water works to dissolve and break down weak stone underground. Some ways to prevent sinkholes are to replace old pipes on your property, use water sparingly, and reporting sinking or damaged road that you see to your local city Public Works.

Not everyone is educated on the costs of sinkholes, and more people don't know how to prevent the events of a sinkhole. Some of the cons of preventing sinkholes is that old pipes can be expensive to repair, water is used a lot and getting a hold of Public Works can be a hassle, but the outcome is more beneficial. Paying a small fortune to repair pipes is better than spending a huge fortune for all the precautionary measures need to repair a sinkhole.
