Save Our Unionville Skyline

The Times Group Inc. has applied for a by-law amendment to increase the height of an 18 storey high-rise under construction (situated on the south side of Hwy 7 and Verclaire Gate, in Unionville, Markham) to a 28 storey high-rise.

Our concern is that more storeys means unprecedented density increases putting more stress on our congested roadways. The height of the building will affect the privacy of the homes in our family neighborhood on the north side of Hwy 7 and permanently alter our open air skyline.

If the amendment is approved for Times Group Inc., future developments will also plan for buildings of this height and higher changing the Hwy 7 skyline into one filled with high-rises and skyscrapers. The plan for the Warden/Hwy 7 corner includes 6 or 7 buildings with 28 to 40 storeys each. As well, there is a proposal for a 30 storey building on the current Sheridan Nursery site and a 33 storey building on the north west corner of Main Street Unionville and Enterprise Blvd.

There is a public meeting on Monday May the 29th, please help us communicate our concerns to our elected City Councillors by signing this petition and join us if you can at the meeting on Monday night at Markham Civic Centre, 7pm. As of Tuesday May 23rd the 10 councillors in attendance approved the height increase, we would like our elected officials to take notice of our opposition to buildings of this height in our neighborhood. Increasing density and adding vitality to our city does not mean adding high rises and skyscrapers.

Please sign this petition if you want to limit the height of buildings along Hywy7 and save our skyline.
