With 970 McDonalds around Australia and 1.7 million people visiting them per day that is a lot of plastic going into our ocean and destroying our land. I propose that McDonalds changes their single use plastic straws to environmentally friendly, biodegradable bamboo straws. Plastic straws take around 200 years to break down into smaller particles but never fully disintegrate leaving chemicals in the soil, air, and water that is harmful to the environment and it's inhabitants. Bamboo straws take a year or less and fully degrade and are not harmful to our marine life or other environments. I'm not the only one who is concerned about our plastic pollution problem. There are many petitions on this website alone. The more signatures we gain the more likely it is for McDonalds to listen and take action. 

10 million plastic straws are used per day which means 3.5 billion per year. Even if one McDonalds in each main city or even each state changes to bamboo straws it will make a huge difference!
