I faced this problem. I used to hope my brother would get certain toys, such as Nerf and other action-oriented items, so that I (a girl) could play with them. Also, as a summer camp counselor, I have seen a girl stop a boy from making a bracelet with her gender-biased, snide questioning/comment. Thankfully, I was there to allow the boy to make his bracelet and expand the girl's view on gender...They are just toys and self-expressions. They don't define gender.
