On June 15th, 1998, the fast food chain McDonald's announced its first-ever global Happy Meal toy partnership with the Walt Disney Company, and while the eight large and colorful Mulan collectible toys were delightful, something far more amazing was born: McNuggets Szechuan sauce! This limited-time special dipping sauce dazzled the taste buds like nothing else before, and for a brief time the only better thing was Eddie Murphy's Mushu voice acting.
But, alas, all good things must come to an end (especially when they're specifically marked "limited-time"), and some things that should never have been forgotten are lost... until now.
In what might arguably be the best April Fool's Day prank of all time, Adult Swim aired the season three premiere of Rick and Morty from 8pm EST to midnight on loop with little fanfare or heads-up, going so far as to have the regular Saturday night line-up listed. Apart from being everything fans have been waiting nearly two years for, the show reminded us of one important thing: We miss the Mulan Szechuan McNuggets sauce just as much as Rick Sanchez, and we want it back!
Four hours of the same fantastic episode with multiple references to the dipping sauce (including Rick's rant at the end) has us craving that savory hot and spicy flavor with just a touch of sweetness, and you should too! It's our one-armed man, our seasonal arc! We here at nerdslant don't care how long it takes--nine seasons, ninety-nine years--but we demand McDonald's bring back the Mulan Szechuan sauce!
If you feel as our staff does, please sign this petition, share it on your social media accounts, and together we can fulfill Rick's dream of tasting that dipping sauce one last time. Wubba lubba dub dub!
