Mccarroll Middle school or Decatur ISD has not done its students a favor by removing recess especially with the ongoing pandemic. We understand that social distancing is important but school has not been going well for to many people, grades have been getting lower and lower, plus teachers and students alike are stressed about all the missing work. Recess is important because it serves as a necessary break from the harsh academic challenges in school. ¨The main point of school is not to socialize¨ is what we hear when we ask for more free time in school. More and more kids are coming over to Decatur and its causing a bit of a problem classes had to jam more kids in over the passed year or to and the likely hood of kids seeing their friends in school is not very big. Most of the friends you make are school friends so in conclusion we want about 30-40 minutes of free time to socialize and run around.
