I grew up in Maple Ridge, as well as many friends and family. Moving the "issue" a little further up Lougheed hwy is not the answer. We all know what is going to happen. I can only imagine what will happen to that neighbour hood and all the familes and kids that live there. Not to memtion what will become of the cemetary.
This situation is so far gone and out of control.

It doesn't matter how nice a facility will be built because the majority of the people that will be living there are people with hard addictions and mental issues. It will change the face of our community. If you want proof, look at the situation where the current shelter is. Used needles and used condoms in and around the current shelter. People walking around in addicted stupors.Theft. We don't want that in our neighborhood. Maple Ridge is land rich(especially the farther east you go). The shelter should be located as far removed from the city. You could build it near a bus loop so they would have access to the town. Build the shelter on an acreage that includes a mandatory treatment facility for addictions as well as mental health issues. We also need to toughen our bylaws so that the police have the power to deal with people using drugs in our parks and streets, as well as homeless people loitering within city limits after dark. I truly regret voting for Nicole Read as she is really showing her inexperience as a leader. We do need to deal with the homeless but just building a shelter(especially in the center of our neighborhood) is fool-hearty. We are just inviting a situation for disaster.

The homeless shelter should be located closer to the Salvation Army area.

Maple ridge seems to becoming a magnet and dumping ground for all lowermainland problem drug users, let's not make maple ridge become a larger and more permanent magnet.

My Grandchildren live in the area of this proposed site. This is not the answer to a very large problem of drug addiction.

I don't think maple ridge is a good place for homeless. They are making our community an unsafe place for ourselves and our children.

I'm signing against putting a shelter in an established neighbourhood with families, schools, businesses. The current shelter is a joke. Allows drugs, dealers, etc. Never should have happened, a total waste of time and money. Would have been better to leave tent city.
