The ongoing homeless (protest) camp is fueling this disturbing trend. It seems that there is no apparent end in sight. It is simply NOT RIGHT to allow this place to continue. Someone needs to take responsibility. The level of frustration, discouragement and anger among the people who work and live in the downtown core is understandably, increasing. The responsibility of addressing the pertinent needs of all those involved has been abandoned by all levels of government. The city of Maple Ridge continues to state that this problem is not under their jurisdiction. However, it is their responsibility to assist their citizens in getting the help and support they need before all hope is lost for the downtown core. The city needs to be doing more to get the attention of the provincial government to resolve this community and human travesty. By allowing the Anita Camp to exist it only serves to cover up the real problems associated with drug abuse and mental health issues. The local neighborhood and businesses are left to fend for themselves in dealing with multiple negative activities impacting them on a daily basis. Immediate action is required! Exposure to the depth of the problem is needed and real pressure needs to be put on all levels of government. People need help – the citizens, the business owners. Let’s return civility and civic pride to Maple Ridge. Remove the protest camp now!
