DECREASE TAX HIKE

Alderman Darryl Brackeen Jr started this petition to Mayor City of New Haven Mayor Toni Harp and

I implore you to support Brackeen Amendment to the FY 2014-2015 Budget seeking to eliminate the Mayor’s proposed tax hike and any other amendments seeking to do so. This does not hurt city services to the tax payer in any way. It only seeks for departments to use better management of the funds given. There are many residents seeking to move out of our city or going into foreclosure because of the idea of the tax rate increase. It has become an overwhelming burden to many.

The Brackeen amendment includes non-consequential cuts to reduce overall spending and thus reduce the proposed mill rate increase to lessen the tax burden on our residents. The proposal would result in a savings of $2,033,622.00. In many cases, flat funding spending and elimination of vacant positions would essentially be a major step toward eliminating the proposed tax hike by the Mayor. A follow-up amendment is forthcoming to attempt to eliminate the mayors proposed tax hike

Even if you do not agree with the Brackeen Amendment, do not sit by idley. Provide concrete amendments to remove the mayor's proposed tax increase.

Please support the Brackeen Amendment to ordinance #2 (Tax Levey) the Mayor’s proposed budget FY 14-15.

Thank you for your consideration of this communication request.

Respectfully submitted,
