In February 2020, it was announced by the city, without any community knowledge, that there was a plan to permanently close Ocie Hill by September 2020. During a council meeting, it was stated that there would be an attempt at trying to save Ocie Hill, with community knowledge included. Ocie Hill has since been closed. In July 2020, it was announced that an organization, who the mayor refused to name, is in talks of leasing/purchasing the building. None of these options were granted or even made known to the community in which Ocie hill means the most. Ocie Hill is prominent in a low income community in which its programs assist with tutoring, food, childcare , etc. All the community wants is at least the option to lease/purchase this building so it can serve the same purpose for the community as it always has..
