Nakia Walker started this petition to Mayor Thomas Roach

There has been unfortunate times this year thanks to pandemic ruler Covid 19. With community centers, movie theaters and other social venues temporarily closed, kids have been forced indoors to read, play video games and read again. Giving a child an outlet to express their creativity or highlight their skills is significant to a child's growth and development. In addition, offering such outlets also encourage much needed life skills, such as team work, relationships management and confidence.

Our Community Park (Gardella Park on Ferris Ave.) is without basketball rims. Although, basketball rims are being reinstalled across the state. Our Park is a staple in our community. Kids are attracted to attending on a regular basis to see friends and interact. We do understand , times have changed, but some things should be non-negotiable. Where will our kids go? What will they do? After feeling trapped in the house for so long, thy are ready. ..Ready to be kids that not only grow in the community but they are the future of the community. Having great park leaders is also imperative. So, we the community members of White Plains, NY also hereby demand that not only should our park activities be made available, but our park employee needs to be replaced. His name is Leroy Johnson. Mr. Johnson shows no real interest in Park Management or sincerely aiding the community.
