Brandon Mora (HTX Breaking News) started this petition to City of Houston (Mayor) Mayor Sylvester Turner and

It is time our ignored neighbors stand up to the city! We are constantly ignored by our officials. Denver Harbor, Fifth Ward, Second Ward!

I'm from Denver Harbor,  a community east of Downtown Houston, a community with residents who are mostly elderly and disabled, a community that has not gotten any makeovers like other communities have. We are in need of sidewalk repairs!

We have schools in our area and most of the children walk to and from school but are unable to do it safely due to damaged sidewalks or the absence of sidewalks. Many of them walk in the street! We have had many accidents in our area, many of them being auto-pedestrian and some of them being FATAL. How many accidents have to occur for the city to finally make repairs in our area? Many streets are not lit/poorly lit and most of those streets have NO SIDEWALKS/DAMAGED SIDEWALKS!

Many reports have been made but the same answer ALL THE TIME! "The sidewalks in the City of Houston are the sole responsibility of the property owner according to section 40-43 on the City of Houston Code of Ordinance." But they are able to ticket us for blocking the "OUR" sidewalk in "OUR" own driveway.

Also, in order for us to repair sidewalks, guess who we have to pay. Yes, the City of Houston. In order to repair our sidewalks using our own money, we need to retrieve a permit from the City of Houston. Also, did you know you can't repair your own driveway without permission from the City of Houston? Yes, you have to pay the city to fix your own driveway. Another thing I've found out, is that the city will not repair a damaged culvert (Drainage pipe) even if they damaged it themselves. You can't fix it yourself either unless, guess what, you purchase another permit from the City of Houston!

Now guess how much everything is going to cost you just by repairing it yourself. You don't want to know because it's A LOT!

With your help sharing and signing, we could get the attention from our local Council Member (Karla Cisneros) and our City Mayor (Turner).
