Stephanie Wells started this petition to MAYOR SYLVESTER TURNER & CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS

Residents, workers, and downtown business owners are increasingly alarmed for their safety amid the growing population of homeless, mentally ill, and increasing crime in downtown Houston.  We no longer feel safe walking our children, our dogs, or even walking to and from work.  People are being verbally and physically attacked, chased, raped, robbed, and harassed on a daily basis.  Please increase law enforcement and clean up downtown Houston to make it safe for its inhabitants.

In the past decade, major metropolitan cities across America have encouraged people to live where you work.  The cities are building more and  more apartment complexes, restaurants, and bars, in order to revitalize their downtowns into a sustainable, walkable neighborhood / work place. Unfortunately, the Houston homeless population has grown exponentially; gang activity and crime is at an all time high; and residents and workers no longer feel safe.

It is hard to justify paying the exorbitant rents, enjoy fine dining, or bringing your children to a sporting event, when you risk being stalked by mentally ill; harassed by homeless smoking Kush on most any corner; being asked for money / handouts; stepping over human excrement; and lastly, becoming the victims of more serious crimes such as armed robbery and rape.

Mayor Turner, City Council Persons, PLEASE TAKE ACTION!
