Don't build a power plant in our city!

This petition made change with 372 supporters!

To the residents of Methuen and surrounding towns,
We are asking that you sign this petition to demonstrate your opposition to the proposal for a natural gas-powered electrical plant on a 45-acre parcel of land off of Old Ferry Road in Methuen, MA. The close proximity of the proposed power plant to our communities threatens the health and welfare of our families, homes and livelihoods. Stopping the construction of this power plant is the only way to prevent a catastrophic event, immeasurable health issues including increases in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, cancer and other diseases related to environmental toxicity, contamination and destruction of the surrounding ecosystems, and extreme loss of equity in our property.

The Methuen town leadership has stated that they will listen to their constituents' concerns regarding this issue, as demonstrated in the December 2, 2014, document “Energy Station Project Announced in Methuen.” Director William J. Buckley states “[f]rom day one, we have informed [LS Power] that the project cannot negatively impact the quality of life for our residents. Mayor Zanni has directed me to put the project through an open, thorough and transparent public review process and we will make a decision as a community whether or not the project is right for the City of Methuen.”

As a resident of this community, your signature will send the message to Mayor Zanni, Director Buckley and the Methuen City Council that this power plant is not acceptable. Thank you in advance for your support of this community.
