(SHS) is drifting into adjoining apartments. "There is no risk-free level of exposure to Second-Hand Smoke (SHS). SHS causes numerous health problems in infants and children, including severe asthma attacks, respiratory infections, ear infections and sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) " See: the Report of the Surgeon General 2006.
"A resident who smokes in a single unit in a multi unit residential building puts the residents of the other units at risk." See: The Surgeon General's Call to Acton to Promote Healthy Homes 2009.
"Studies show that older children exposed to SHS get sick more often. Their lungs grow less than children who do not breathe SHS and they get more bronchitis and pneumonia."
Urge the Mayor and City Council to pass an ordinance which copies the language of the Smoke-Free AZ Act and adds new language. See: The ANSR Model Smoking Pollution Control Comprehensive Ordinance Draft #7, Corrected March 3, 2014. Deficiencies in the Smoke-Free AZ Act, passed by the voters in 2006, effective May 7, 2007, must be corrected.
