Essa, Ontario is a small township consisting of even smaller pockets of communities. As it grows, the need to re-evaluate speeds in town is becoming urgent.

On June 4th, 2020, 11-year-old Jaxon McAulay lost his life after being struck by a vehicle while riding his bike. There is currently a memorial set up at the corner of Simcoe Street and Elizabeth Street in Angus to commemorate Jaxon’s life. Despite there being a memorial filled with bright flowers, loving messages and signs asking people to slow down, nothing has changed. The speed limit is consistently ignored on all streets in town - Including past a blatant reminder of what vehicles are capable of doing to human lives. As the community continues to grow, the problem only seems to worsen with increased traffic in areas that were previously quiet country backroads.

The people of Essa Township are demanding immediate action from the Mayor and Council with regards to speed deterrence and road safety. This includes speed limit reductions, stop sign placements, speed bumps and police intervention. We need to do everything we can to prevent another innocent life being lost.

If not for yourself and your family, please slow down for Jaxon.
