I am petitioning for guard rails or some type of barrier to be installed along the roadside between Olive Dr. and Gem View Dr. in Oceanside. On 12/14/21, around 9 or 10pm, a Toyota Tundra went through backyard fences along Olive Dr. & the vehicle flew in the air taking down adjoining backyard fences of 4 residents causing tornado-like damages. My son & his four children live at Diamond Circle in Oceanside. His children attend OUSD schools. His backyard looked like a tornado hit it with damages to his fence, patio and yard. Debris was like missiles landing in neighbors yards. The other 3 neighbors also sustained backyard damages.

About a year and a half ago, there was an accident again behind my son’s backyard. He had to replace his backyard fence and the neighbor also had to do the same thing. A car hit his fence and car flew into the neighbor’s yard. During that last traffic accident, I asked the police officer what the chances are of getting a guard rail put up. The police officer said,  “good luck with that.” More than likely, no guard rails would be put up and residents would be at risk again. Residents live in fear that a car will come flying in anytime. They try not to go into their backyards with family or friends. They try staying in parts of their home where there would be less chance of injury if a car were to crash again. Is that the way to live in your own home and property?

If you look at the accident traffic history of that area, you will find that there were more than five accidents within the last six years. This is a real CHRONIC safety problem! I’m hoping that something could be installed to protect lives & properties. The 3 yellow signs with black arrows along Olive St. is not effective & does not help. It’s more like a bullseye since drivers have been crashing into them! Please help us & our community in order to ensure a safer Oceanside.
