Toronto, ON  M5H 2N2,

During the COVID-19 pandemic, physical and social distancing have been identified as the best means we have to prevent the rapid spread of coronavirus and ensure that everyone who needs medical attention is able to receive it. However, many downtown condo-dwellers are faced with the prospect of:

- a lengthy period in self-isolation in very space-restricted apartments

- condo amenities that are not available due to COVID-19 restrictions

- insufficient sidewalk space to maintain 2-meters of distance (given the size of the sidewalks and the density of the population in downtown Toronto)

For the sake of downtown residents' mental health, we believe the city should close streets to traffic in select areas of the city with high condo density, to allow for residents to get some respite while maintaining safe distances from others. With a steep drop in regular city traffic with work-from-home arrangements, we believe this is both feasible and necessary with the prospect of a continued shelter-in-place orders.
