Conlands Parkette is located at 7 Conland Ave in the Dufferin and Lawrence/Allen Rd. area of Toronto, Ontario. I am writing this petition in hopes of getting Conlands Parkette converted to an official off leash dog park.

Conlands Parkette is a big, open, grassy, fenced in area between houses on Conland Ave. and is used by the community as an “unofficial dog park” where many owners in the community let their dogs run free and play—especially now during COVID-19 and many people are and will be working from home. A simple search on google will show you that the very few images of Conlands Parkette are of dogs.

One of the main reasons it is important to get this area changed to an official dog park is for the safety of the all the dogs in the community. Although it is a fenced in area, there are portions of the fence that dogs would be able to escape out of.  Along with these portions of the fence, dogs are able to run out of the parkette from the entrance way. All this would require is an addition of a gate that can be opened and closed.

Dane Parkette located at 21 Dane Ave. (which is only a 2 minute walk from Conlands Parkette) has recently been transformed into a park with a playground with lots of grass, swings, slides, climbers, benches etc. for children and families to enjoy. So not only are parents going to bring their children to Dane Parkette to play, making Conlands Parkette an official dog park will also detour more dog owners from bringing their dogs to Dane Parkette and encourage them to walk the extra bit and enjoy the safety of a fenced in dog park where they know their dog is safe to run free and play with other dogs. Having a separated dog park will also prevent any unfortunate accidents happening between someone’s dog and someone else’s child (because we do know accidents do happen time to time).

Please sign this petition to encourage the City of Toronto and Councillor for this ward, Mike Colle, to make some important changes to continue to keep all dogs, children and community members safe.
