Many streets in Toronto are named after racist individuals of the past. We are slowly seeing change with the gradual removal of statues, putting the first Canadian woman of color on the $10 bill, and the consideration of renaming Dundas Street. However, there are other streets that should be renamed.

Streets can be renamed after various Canadian figures who played a huge role in Canadian society. Some include Andrew Sutherland, Jane Rule, Jean Augustine, Jackie Shane, Viola Davis, or Vern Harper.

There are countless streets that need renaming, including Dundas Street and Jarvis Street. Slowly but surely, we can make a change. We should overlook, but never forget, racist people from our country's past and build our future on equality and racial justice.
