Allow drought tolerant landscaping in Lawndale

The landscaping requirements for the city of Lawndale do not allow homeowners to choose drought tolerant landscaping. I would like to conserve water to help the state of California and beautify my home while doing it. The current regulations require a minimum of 50% of the front setback to be live landscaping which really means grass. Mulch, decomposed granite, or artificial turf is not allowed. These rules do not align with what the state is trying to accomplish by cutting back on water usage. Lastly modern landscaping is trending away from grass lawns, having a combination of live plants and non live flatwork can create a modern, low maintenance, and beautiful home which will increase property values.
