Regency Road in Gulf Shores Alabama is a quiet, residential ,walking ,biking, neighborhood with modern up to date individually owned. Traffic is manageable at present but is extremely heavy at certain morning and afternoon hours. If 400-500 more residents and their vehicles are added to this residential area, the complete nature of Regency Road area will be negatively impacted. The added residents at Regency Place would increase the total population of the City of Gulf Shore 5%. The development would burden the infrastructure and street system; diminish the vitality and property values of the surrounding area;detract from the enjoyment of neighboring properties; and diminish the environmental quality of natural resources.
The Gulf Shores Planning Commission has approved a high density apartment complex with short term rentals in this quiet family oriented neighborhood.

The Site Plan reveals a total of 206 apartments with 33 one bedroom units, 125 two bedroom units, and 48 three bedroom units to be built on this property. The plan also lists 358 parking spaces. This approval of this Site Plan was pushed through with limited or no consideration of the specified City’s Zoning Ordinances or the City’s current approved “Land Use Plan”,antiquated city planning zones and absolutely no input by homeowners surrounding the area. The planning commission and zoning laws for our city do not coincide with the Land Use Plan of the City.

The residents of Regency Road vigorously request a hold, modification or repeal of The Planning Commission’s decision. We demand proper oversight and intervention to remedy the Planning Commission’s actions in approving the Regency Place Apartment Site Plan. We recognize the ultimate decision rests squarely on our elected officials- Mayor and members of the City Council.  We desire to maintain the unique charm of the “Small Town Big Beach” section of Gulf Shores.
