Why this petition matters

Started by Dwayne Haizlip

We call your ATTENTION to the following petition, and implore your urgent support:

There has been a blatant disregard for justice and sentencing reform here in North Carolina that has plagued the lives of many, as can be seen by the story of Dwayne Haizlip, outlined herein:

  • He is an African American male who has been harshly and disproportionately sentenced (22-29 yrs.) for a non-violent drug offense. There is no victim(s) involved in his case.
  • Dwayne had two separate trials, both for drugs. However, in his second case, he was forced to go to trial without a lawyer, which is not fair, just, or legal.  (In addition, to view the full story, please visit Dwayne’s Webpage: http://releasefordwayne.com (Look for details under the INJUSTICE tab)
  • We are now appealing to N.C's Governor Roy Cooper; Greensboro, N.C  D.A Avery Crump; North Carolina Judicial Branch of government to reduce Dwayne's harsh non-violent prison sentence.

Your support of Dwayne’s petition will be a positive step in the direction of transforming the landscape and culture of justice here in North Carolina.

Thus far, Dwayne has been incarcerated for 11 years and It is time for him to be released because Dwayne is someone's father, son, nephew, brother, etc. Additionally, Dwayne has changed his lifestyle (seminary graduate, pastoral ministry), and with the skill sets he now possesses, he can be used as a tool to help combat drugs and gang violence in our communities.
