Open up the negotiations to help avoid a strike

Parents and citizens concerned about public education believe that asking teachers to "wait for the fact-finders report" is a message that will not lead to results. The fact finders cannot make any independent recommendations  beyond what the city determines should be within the scope of the negotiations thanks to a state law, Senate Bill 7, that passed last year. We encourage the city to open up the talks beyond pay and benefits and and find ways to (1) work meaningfully with teachers and (2) begin building a culture of trust with both teachers and parents to advance issues that are critical to our kids' schools. We hope that the city can take the first step to start this process. Set a new tone in Chicago for the sake of our kids and begin working with teachers and parents to find common ground.
