Denville Community Gardens started this petition to Mayor Tom Andes and

We, the citizens of Denville and members of Denville Community Gardens, petition the town to revise the Library Expansion Plan to build a new parking lot, on the south side of the Library, toward downtown, rather than destroying gardens.

There have been no adequate public hearings on this issue.

The current plan will destroy 11 gardens, the water pumping system and three beautiful white pine trees. Instead of beans, kale, tomatoes and broccoli there will be pavement which will increase water runoff from the hard surface of the parking lot and the water may flood the gardens and wash out the drive.

Our gardens provide food for 120 families and surplus vegetables are donated to the town social service food pantry, St. Peters orphanage, a homeless feeding program and friends and neighbors of the gardeners. The trees and garden greenery combat the pollution from nearby Rt 80. We have Beehives in the garden. Bees are endangered all over the country and serve as pollinators for the whole area. Without pollinators there would be no vegetables.

As taxpayers we implore you to address this issue and not destroy a portion of the community gardens.
