Water pollution is an environmental crisis in New York even though our tap water is safe to drink. In 2019  it was reported that on any given day, there was a 50% chance that sewage and trash from the city made it unsafe to touch water along any shoreline and we have  nearly 2O billion gallons of untreated raw sewage and runoff bypass our sewage treatment plants and get dumped into the water around the five boroughs. Things like flushing things in the toilet like makeup and water runoff  contribute to contaminating our water supplies.
SOLUTION:
Planting more trees help reduce runoff that brings toxins and then neutralize, metabolize it  and acts as an enormous sponge for pollutants. They do this through:
