Enrico Uva started this petition to Alan DeSousa, Valérie Plante (Mayor of St-Laurent, Mayor of Montreal)

There is almost no function in the human body which is not affected by the toxicity of lead. A 40-year study by Reuben found an association between childhood lead exposure and declines in intelligence and socioeconomic status later in life. Lead also causes long-term harm in adults, including increased risk of high blood pressure and kidney damage. As a result, the government has lowered the threshold(maximum allowable limit) of lead in tap water to 5 parts per billion.  The city of Montreal including the borough of St-Laurent says it has committed itself to replacing lead pipes. But it's been a slow process, an embarrassment as Montreal is one of only 5 Canadian cities that still has pipes leaching the toxic metal. The city says it will cover the cost of replacing the parts that are on both private and city property. Yet there are still many streets in St-Laurent which have lead pipes. An interactive map is found here: (https://services.montreal.ca/presence-plomb/?utm_source=site-ville&utm_medium=web&utm_campaign=vdm-eau-plomb-dans-leau-2019-traf We demand that replacing them becomes an immediate priority, especially in the light of the fact that while not completing this essential task quickly enough, the city seems to have the time and budget to replace sidewalks, many of which are still in an acceptable condition. The public should also have access to all past lead lab analyses conducted by the city in case federal standards become more stringent with advancing research.
