“We share a collective responsibility to be good stewards of our public lands.” Therefore, we the people, who have signed this petition call for Mayor Adams to close the encampments associated with Occupy Portland.

Mayor Adams has controlled the city’s relationship with the protesters, and therefore we petition the Mayor to end the encampment by November 17, 2011.

The encampments are in clear violation of park rules and city codes. Such encampments are also costing thousands of dollars in Police resources and damage to the parks. “The way things are operating now is not sustainable.” The encampment has worn out its welcome with rampant illicit drug and alcohol use, violent behavior and criminal conduct creating an unsafe environment.

“Lownsdale and Chapman Squares are public assets that deserve to be treated with respect and care.” It is imperative that we end the encampment before another serious injury or death occurs.

We urge all citizens who support the Occupy Movement to continue seeking office space.
