Rid Evanston of 'Blake Peters Day'

Many people find it very upsetting and shocking that Evanston created a 'Blake Peters Day' due to one game winning shot, myself included. To be blatantly honest, giving this boy his own day is dramatic, unfair, uncalled for, and just plain wrong. It triggers many questions. Would Blake Peters have been granted his own day if he was African American? What about the countless other Evanston athletes who made game-winning shots/blocks? Why did our mayor authorize this? How come when an innocent 15 year old African American boy was murdered, within the vicinity of our legendary high school, he wasn't publicly granted his own day of remembrance? Why is social media treating Blake Peters like a hero when in reality, it's nothing more than a game of basketball?
Because I wholeheartedly disagree with this day t mayor has appointed, I'm creatimy this petition to rid our town of this day. It is completely ineffective, and to be frank, we don't need or want it. I hope the mayor reads the email I sent him, and takes into consideration how this motion affects our town, and dooes something to stop it. If not, I pray this petition does its job.
