Lee Hughes started this petition to Mayor of Chicago

Chicago has been the murder capital for years now. With the number of shooting deaths at an all time high it seems that the mayor and the superintendent of police are running out of answers on how to stop the blood shed. On August4, 2020 a shooting occurred downtown Chicago. Where man was killed and another 3 victims were injured while shopping. Shortly after, a video of the aftermath went viral on social media. The video shows a 26 year old male bleeding out for minutes and reaching for help as more than 10 Chicago police officers standby and await an ambulance. That 26 year old was eventually transported to the hospital where he died. With prehospital care being the answer to so many near deaths and close calls, the video makes everyone wonder how much would Chicago’s murder rate decrease if the police were trained to treat injured victims before an ambulance can arrive for transport to a hospital. The average response time for Chicago police is 3.46 minutes while the average response time for the fire department is 5-7 minutes. With the adoption of an EMT requirement for police officers I am sure that cardiac arrest victims, and more will benefit from these crucial minutes. Let’s Stop the bleeding!
