Camalita Naicker started this petition to Mayor of Cape Town and

Many of us are forced to work at home during the lockdown. This means that our homes have become our workplaces. It is becoming increasingly impossible to work in a healthy environment after lockdown level three because of constant construction, building maintenance, leaf blowers and other heavy machinery being used (often without any pressing need). The sporadic and unrestrained nature of these events means that one could easily find themselves having to deal with excessive noise on everyday of the week, which has debilitating effects on one's ability to work and one's mental health.  Some of us are lecturers who teach online, journalists who are writing stories, editors of various kinds, business people who rely on having meetings online, others still might require quiet environments for other work purposes. We have a right to a quiet, healthy, work environment. These are exceptional times, that call for exceptional measures, especially since we are not sure how long this period of lockdown will last.

This petition would like to introduce mandatory quiet days in Seapoint which are attentive to the needs of residents who have to work from home. All businesses and body corps should only be allowed to perform any excessive noise-making work on two days in the week. We propose here the days of Monday and Tuesday. By confining all noise-making work to these two days, it would allow people to plan in advance and for a more coordinated effort from businesses and body corps to confine activities that cause severe disruption to the the normal working days of others.

Please sign this petition for a healthy working environment and lets challenge our local government to take the need for a healthy working environment for residents seriously.
