Submitted alongside The Mayor to:
- The Greater Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Combined Authority
- The Greater Cambridge Partnership
- Cambridgeshire County Council
- Cambridge City Council
- South Cambridgeshire District Council
This petition calls on The Mayor and the above mentioned organisations *to reject the Cambridge Mass Transit Options Report* submitted by Steer Davies Gleave (SDG) (See here) commissioned jointly by the Mayor and the Greater Cambridge Partnership, formerly the Greater Cambridge City Deal, for the reasons listed by the Smarter Cambridge Transport Campaign. (SCT)
The budget for the report was £150,000. The report submitted by the above-mentioned firm commissioned to deliver it represents poor value for money as it misses out a number of very significant factors that The Mayor and his fellow decision makers need to be aware of before making their decision on which option to progress with. This includes no consideration for the current or future projected number of tourists to Cambridge.
Furthermore it makes no assessment of income generated by tourists on light rail into and within the city. As proposed by Cambridge Connect, tourist coaches could transfer passengers onto light rail at Park & Ride locations on the city periphery, thereby removing the need for most tourist and intercity coaches from entering the inner city.
The gaps in analysis and information means that it is harder for the Mayor and fellow decision-makers to make an informed decision. We therefore invite the decision makers to reject the submitted report, inviting SDG to refresh and resubmit their report taking into account fully the points made by SCT.
