PETITION TO PRESERVE THE PARADE ROUTES IN FRONT OF THE ALAMO
- The Battle of Flowers Parade was started in 1891 to honor the fallen heroes on the Alamo and commemorate the Battle victory
- As part of this 127-year tradition, each parade entry gives a floral tribute that is laid at the Alamo during the parade
- The Fiesta Flambeau Parade was created in 1948 and celebrated it's 70th parade this year
- The Flambeau pays homage to the Battle with the UT Longhorn Band playing the "Eyes of Texas" in front of the Alamo during the parade
Both parades have traveled down Alamo Street, in front of the Alamo, since inception.
The current Alamo Interpretive Plan provides several "alternative" parade routes, in addition to closing Alamo Street, none of which will pass in front of the Alamo.
The Battle of Flowers Parade and Fiesta Flambeau Parades are a San Antonio tradition and a huge part of our City's history. Both parades deserve to maintain their historically significant parade routes in FRONT of the Alamo.
