AMEND THE "3,000 SQUARE FOOT RULE"
AMEND THE "3,000 SQUARE FOOT RULE"

AMEND DALLAS CITY CODE - Section 51A-4.501(i)
We, Citizens of Dallas, who promote the preservation of our City's historical resources, do request that the "3000 Square Foot Rule" City Code Section 51A-4.501(i) be amended. This rule allows for a certificate of demolition, sought by the City through the City Attorney Office, for residential structures less than 3,000 square feet to be demolished within an historic overlay district. Although square footage of a residential structure should be no measure to determine historical significance, we request that the City amend City Code Section 51A-4.501 (i) by replacing "3,000 square feet" with "500 square feet". The amended threshold would insure that not one residential structure 500 square feet or more in an historic overlay district would bypass the consideration process for its historical significance and be destroyed.
