Hunter Sawyer started this petition to Mayor Michael P. Cahill

In 2011, Mayor Bill Scanlon signed a 10 year exclusive contract with Comcast to be the sole provider of TV and internet for all of Beverly. That contract concludes in May of this year and I would like the current mayor, Michael P. Cahill, to agree not to sign another deal with terms like this.

Now, more than ever, we need competition with our internet service providers (ISPs). Just this year Comcast has introduced data caps for all of its customers, and there is nothing that we can do about it. Data caps limit how much internet data you can use in a month and if you go over that limit you are charged a fee. Beverly citizens have no other options for high speed internet, so they have to endure whatever terms and pricing Comcast dictates. This is the definition of a monopoly and this must be stopped. By simply allowing another ISP to come into the area, Verizon Fios for example, competition can develop which will help stabilize prices and the market as a whole. If there is another company that customers could switch to when Comcast increases prices or adds data caps, Comcast might not be so quick to implement these tactics.

Please sign this petition if you would like more choices for your internet and TV and to stop Comcast from having a monopoly
