Rename Christopher Columbus Waterfront Park

The city of Boston is a bastion of history, but that doesn't mean we should be stuck in the past. Due to his legacy, Christopher Columbus is certainly a figure worth learning about, but that doesn't mean we should continue bestowing honors upon him. As we strive to move beyond the more divisive elements of our nation's history, our city should acknowledge that Columbus is an inappropriate person for our society to be celebrating; his statue in this park is already more than enough. Renaming Christopher Columbus Waterfront Park to something more appropriate would be a simple gesture with a profound meaning, as our city stands up to hate and the offensive symbols that support it.
