Implement Traffic Calming Devices on Burkholder Street

Traffic throughout Stouffville has increased as our town has grown.

Burkholder Street and area residents have expressed concerns regarding pedestrian safety with the increased traffic through Memorial Park and the neighbourhood to the west of the park.

In an effort to address these concerns, we encourage Mayor Lovatt and Council to implement traffic calming devices - i.e. speed bumps, road narrowing, speed limit signs, stop signs, etc. - along Burkholder Street through Memorial Park and the neighbourhood to the west of the park.

By reopening Burkholder Street with traffic calming devices in place, drivers will be forced to slow down and safety levels for residents and those using Memorial Park will increase. This will also give area residents a second option for entering or exiting the neighbourhood and accessing areas to the south, thereby alleviating some of the road congestion on Main Street.

We feel the installation of traffic calming devices would positively address the concerns and needs of all area residents and urge Mayor Lovatt and Council to seriously consider this compromise.
