Angelina Bravo started this petition to Mayor Lori Lightfoot and

The General Iron company, a business that recycles metal was moved out of their original spot due to residents in the North Side Chicago neighborhood, Lincoln Park, complaining about pollution. Since they were moved out they are now moving to the East Side of Chicago where it’s already over polluted. General Iron is a company that turns metal products into a raw material that steel mills and foundries use to efficiently produce new metal. According to wttw news, General Iron receives mostly automobiles and refrigerators for shredding but they also have a portion of scrap metal that is unknown. They also do not scan their metal for any type of  hazardous waste, combustible materials, toxins or contaminants that may be harmful to the environment before the scrap metal is shredded and disbursed airborne into large stockpiles. When the metal exits the shredder a metallic dust and fiberglass is put into our air. This dust causes asthma, bronchitis, asbestosis, and even cancer.

After reading all of that, is this what you want in your neighborhood? Do you want more industrial companies polluting our air? Or do you want them to move? General Iron is moving to 11600 S. Burley Ave. That location is right next to George Washington High School and Elementary School, the East Side Plaza and a park. That means this factory will be next to many children in the neighborhood. By signing this petition you are showing that you want a change, you are showing that you care about our environment.  Signing this petition is just one step closer to make General Iron move.

We should be helping our neighborhood, not making it worse!
