Help Save Miko's Sports Lounge

I support  Dede Yancey, Owner of Miko's Sports Lounge, in her effort to save her business located at 710 W Willow Street .   I feel she has put a plan together to meet the safety standards requested by the city and she has shown me her willingness to do what it takes to ensure her business follows city regulations.  I feel shutting down her business would cause great financial loss to this small business owner and to her employees.

Dede was not given due process during the hearings and she received no support from the City at all.  The Police Chief put the business license up for revocation because there was over 250 calls for service (in which there was never a citation given for any of the calls), a shooting outside the bar, a stabbing outside the bar (happened at laundry-mate and stabbed victim ran into bar for help) and an attempted suicide. The neighbors on 2500 block of Maine Street said they were fearful to be in the neighborhood and are not enjoying their homes since the opening of Miko's.  One neighbor even went as far as to say he sold his home for $20-$50 thousand dollars less because of the nuisance of the bar.   That guy never owned the home, he lied under oath and he was the main witness for the City during the hearing.  The calls for service and any other incidents documented happened in 2014-2015, when bar was first opened, there has since been changes made  to the bar and it's operations.

The City of Long Beach prides itself on its diversity.  Dede Yancey is the only African American female in Long Beach that owns a bar and they City has put no efforts with helping her become successful as a small business owner.  The African American community supports the bar because it is the only place in Long Beach where they feel comfortable.  Dede rents the side room of bar for fund raisers, re-passes, meetings, class reunions at an affordable price and at times for free.  Miko's have conducted toy drives, fed the homeless and contributed to kids receiving school supplies.

Many people have met old friends, new friends and long lost family members because of Miko's.

We respectfully ask the city to give her a chance to work with the departments in question for the next 30 days to achieve a plan that everyone can be happy with.
