DHSH proposes to convert a hotel into permanent zero-security zero-expulsion zero-rule homeless shelter for seriously mentally ill and drug-addicted homeless.

The target population are persons who were put into temporary hotels during COVID - the same group the city had to bribe to get off the streets by hand-delivering free drugs to the hotel rooms.

This facility would be entirely insecure. Nothing would prevent residents from dealing drugs from these units, from moving other homeless in, from harassing the residents of other buildings, or anything else. In fact since the residents would have leases (paid by the city) it would be impossible to remove any resident.

DHSH has no plan for providing security around the building at all.

DHSH has no plan for the residents ever leaving, and indeed intends them to remain at the site, supported by the city, effectively for life.

Residents would not be screened for prior felonies, including sexual assault and child molestation.

Our Cathedral Hill neighborhood is already shouldering more than its fair share. Since the Oasis Inn was converted to family supportive housing, it is surrounded for a two-block radius in tents, trash, human feces, used needles, and violent drug-addicted vagrants. We have had two shootings, and residents are harassed and threatened daily. Our park, which used to be filled with children and dogs, is now instead filled with human feces and used needles. And this project is what DHSH has called a "complete success."

Our buildings are already 50% empty. If this new shelter opens, a formerly nice neighborhood will be turned into a permanent slum. We can't afford another DHSH "success"
