On November 9, 2021, San Francisco Mayor London Breed announced her support for the recall of three San Francisco Board of Education members. 

San Francisco’s “strong mayor” city model gives Mayor Breed appointment power for these three Board of Education seats should a recall succeed. Mayor Breed has yet to release a list of potential appointees for these three seats. 

San Francisco voters deserve to know who they are voting for. The pro recall movement has received nearly $500,000 in funding from noted charter school proponents. In the name of transparency, it is only right that the voters know who the Mayor will select to shape the future of the San Francisco Board of Education. 

One school board member facing recall had previously been appointed by Mayor Breed to the board, but she now supports his recall. This calls into question Mayor Breed’s judgement in making board appointments.

Voters deserve to know which potential Board of Education they are voting for, not just the ones they are recalling. 

In summary, San Francisco voters are being denied their right to vote FOR candidates, not just against current, sitting board members.
