Demand Mental health support for all Chicago Police Officers
Why this petition matters
I am the sister of a Chicago Police Officer. Last week, the department lost 2 officers to suicide. These officers are dealing with so much hate and are not supported by their Superintendent OR even the Mayor of Chicago. These men and women go to work with their families praying the come home safely. The mental toll their job take on them is unfathamavl. What they see, what they do, how they’re treated is sad. I think every district should have a monthly “check in” with all officers. It will cost the city money, but this is something that is becoming necessary. I don’t know what else to say, but these officers need to know it’s ok to express how they’re feeling and know someone is there for them to talk to. Please do more to support police officers. They take an oath to serve and protect their city but who is serving and protecting them? Who is checking in with them to make sure they are ok, not physically but mentally? The Chicago Police Department needs to do something. The Chicago Police Department has the highest suicide rate over the national average. Why? Why is nothing being done to help these men and woman who go to work, worried they may not come home? Please find a way to bring people in for these officers to talk to, to express how and what they’re feeling, and tell them that it is ok to seek help, to ask for help and say that they aren’t ok. Please, something needs to change.
