Did you know that 54 percent of low-income households are in danger of being gentrified and or are experiencing gentrification in their neighborhoods? Some residents who have lived in the Bay Area for decades have been seeing and or experienced gentrification amongst their neighborhoods. Gentrification is when a wealthy community expands territorially into a disinvested neighborhood, causing housing prices to go up and or forces residents to move out of their homes. A major factor in the increase of housing prices is expensive houses being built in low income neighborhoods. Neighborhoods in the Bay Area are being affected by gentrification and it is becoming a major problem for low-income residents. So, to make an effort to solve this problem, we should ban expensive housing to be built in at-risk neighborhoods and replace them with middle income houses.

So, why is this important? Well, to start things off, many of the residents in the Bay Area being forced to move out their neighborhoods are residents who have been living in that neighborhood for decades and are generally low-income minorities. The main cause of long-term residents being moved out is because of the increase in the price of their houses caused by the expensive houses being built in their neighborhoods. Housing companies that develop houses choose to go overboard with their house prices and target the people with money, that is called developer's greed. It is not fair that just because of developer's greed that historical communities are starting to deteriorate and residents in that community are facing displacement. The families facing displacement are forced to move into new neighborhoods and start a new social network in an unfamiliar environment. If companies were forced to build middle income houses rather than expensive houses in a low income neighborhood, then surrounding houses wouldn't drastically go up in value and force the low income residents and or long term residents to be displaced.
