Painting Black Lives Matter mural on the city street in front of the Phoenix Suns Arena

Greetings Phoenix Residents,

Mayor Kate Gallego, recently said, "Phoenix wants to become a better city and our country wants to come together and do more." The city claims to acknowledge the concerns of the Black community, however is hesitant to express their solidarity. Phoenix is one of the fastest growing cities in our country, and yet somehow one of the least progressive cities. Recently, Phoenix was given the opportunity to show their resolve to stand with their Black Community and leave a symbol that recognizes the need for change. However, the city officials failed to act and greeted this opportunity with opposition. Phoenix, enough is enough. When the community organized to have Martin Luther King Jr Day recognized as a state holiday, it was met with opposition. When the community organized to have a street renamed Dr Martin Luther King Jr BLVD, it was met with opposition. Now we are being met with the same opposition and excuses. It’s time to get to work.

This petition serves as notice to the Mayor that residents of this city are in support of painting the Black Lives Matter mural in front of the Phoenix Suns Arena. Hesitancy has never succeeded in affecting change. So today, Mayor Kate Gallego, I ask you to not hesitate and take the lead. Grant us permission to paint the mural on the city street so that we can ban together as one community. To residents of our city, I ask that you sign this petition. I ask that you sign it for yourself, for your neighbors, and to make Phoenix a better City.
