Keep Taylorsville Transparent and Accountable!

In a meeting earlier this month, the Taylorsville City Council passed an ordinance requiring city elected officials and candidates to disclose yearly campaign finance information. Taylorsville Mayor Larry Johnson, however, vetoed the ordinance, claiming the problem was nonexistent since the law already complied with state requirements and there had been no public call for stricter reporting requirements.
Well, we the public are now calling for more transparency!
Last night, the Taylorsville City Council met to reconsider the ordinance and attempt to override the Mayor’s veto. The council failed to do so in a 3-2 vote; however, council members will draft a new ordinance that still increases campaign finance disclosure requirements, but changes the reporting times to appease concerns from the Mayor and others. Last night’s vote was a disappointment, but we renew our call on the City Council to approve this proposed ordinance for the sake of transparency.
Sign our petition, and ask that the Taylorsville City Council and Mayor pass this ordinance to keep our local government transparent so that our officials can be held accountable for their actions!
